Production for the third season of the acclaimed detective series McDonald & Dodds has officially commenced, with Tala Gouveia and Jason Watkins reprising their lead roles as DCI McDonald and DS Dodds. Claire Skinner, known for her work in Outnumbered, has joined the cast as Chief Superintendent Ormond, bringing her experience to the role. The season will feature four self-contained episodes, with Lily Sacofsky returning as DC Milena Pachiowski and Danyal Ismail making his debut as DC Martin Malik. In a recent statement, Claire Skinner expressed her enthusiasm for the role, saying: "As a dedicated fan of McDonald & Dodds, I'm thrilled to be joining the cast as Chief Superintendent Ormond. The inaugural episode, titled Belvedere, opens with the discovery of a young woman found lifeless in a deckchair during daylight in Bath's most picturesque and bustling park, raising the question: why did she meet her fate with a serene smile? The first film will include notable guest stars such as Alan Davies (Jonathan Creek), Holly Aird (Waking The Dead), Catherine Tyldesley (Coronation Street), and Dame Siân Phillips (I, Claudius). The series was commissioned by ITV's Polly Hill and Huw Kennair Jones, with Rebecca Davies overseeing production. Executive producers include Damien Timmer, while Robert Murphy, the show's creator and lead writer, will direct episodes one and four. Robert Drummond will handle episode two, and Kam Odedra will take charge of episode three. The directing team comprises Robert Quinn, Isher Sahota, Ian Aryeh, and Sasha Ransome. McDonald & Dodds is produced by Mammoth Screen, a UK-based production company, with co-production support from BritBox North America. The series will be distributed internationally by ITV Studios, with past and upcoming projects from Mammoth Screen including The Serpent (BBC/Netflix), Noughts Crosses, World on Fire, Grime Kids (BBC), Why Didn't They Ask Evans (Britbox), and Endeavour (ITV). Climbing to a consolidated audience of 6.7 million viewers, the second season's success underscores the show's popularity. Both seasons are currently available for streaming on Britbox North America, while ITV Studios will manage global distribution.
